Reflective Report

Reflective reports are  an overview report on my time in  the classroom and at activities. I was really suprised at all that I learned and glad that I went to each my reports. I hope you learn as much as I learned when you read these reports.

During the Labor Day weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Adamsville Boys & Girls Club. Going into this I was a bit nervous due to the fact of I had no experience with working with kids or even not knowing what to  expect out of this opportunity. I know that working with kids can be a handful because now of days kids are into many different things than I was growing up. Prior to my first day volunteering there I made up different activities that I think they would enjoyed.  September 4th Friday was my actually first day interacting with the kids. Walking into the Boys & Girls Club all you could see were a bunch of kids with different ethnical backgrounds. At that exact moment I knew that I had no worries with working with the kids. My first task that was handed to me was helping Mr. Black . in the gym. The age group that I had to work with was 5-6 year old boys and girls. When hearing that age group I was a bit terrified because at that age they are just now learning right from wrong. The first activity that I decided to do was an icebreaker game that was age appropriate for my group. So that they had a chance to get to know me and that gave me a chance to get to know them. The first icebreaker I did was called “Fire,Ice,Water and Earth” this game is basically this game was a listening game. I wanted to test their listening skills. The first run thru the game everyone was out. So I had to take on different approach with them when doing this game. The approach I took was telling them whoever wins have a chance to be in charge of the next game that we would play. I saw that everyone wanted to be in charge so I knew from that point everyone would put on their listening ears. So we played the game one more time I saw by telling them that work because no one was out the first round . Going into the fifth round there were only two kids left . It was very hard because every trick I use wasn’t working. So I just decided to make both of them in charge of the next game that we played. Trying to get them to use their listening ears took up the whole entire time they had in them gym so I just decided to let them have ten minutes of play time. Seeing smiles on their faces after leaving that day I knew that they enjoyed having me there with them that day as a volunteer .

September 16th Friday was my first day back from the last time I’ve seen the kids. Now that I know how things go on at the Boys & Girls Club  I knew that it would be an easier than my first day. I was excited to see the kids and to see what they’ve been up too. Soon as I walked into the building you could see that the kids were happy to see me. Especially the 5-6 year olds that I had the chance to work with my first day.  Walking into the Boys & Girls Club I was ready to go straight into my task for that day. My task for this day was to help Mrs Harris  in the learning center  with an different different age group. The age group that I had to help out with were the 11-12 boys and and girls. When giving this task I was excited to help out with them. I knew working with the older kids would be much easier and much more fun than working with the young.
