Lesson 7

  • Do you think it would be important to show this video in your classroom? If so, why? If not, why not?

If giving a chance to show this video within in a classroom setting I would show it. Showing this video would give the students another view point on how families are different. This video gives examples on how kids around their age are brought up.

  • What kinds of problems can you envision if you were to show this video to your students? Describe at least two problems.

The kinds of problems that I can envision if I were to show this video to my students would be a debate and or some tension within the classroom. Growing up your parents has always taught you right and wrong. Also your parents has taught you that you are title to your opinion. Whether you agree or disagree with something’s. As a child you always think that you are right and never wrong.

  • How would you address or solve the problems that you described in response to the above question? Be specific.

If I were to be put in this situation as teacher you cannot tell a student that they are wrong or right. I would let my student’s debate. I would give them a chance to voice their opinion on what they think. Without no one judging because everyone is in title to their opinion.

  • Do you think that there is such a thing as the "perfect" family? Why or why not?

There is no such thing as a perfect family. There are always some issues whether big or small within every family. Some families hide their problems which create more. A lot of families today have secrets.

  • How would you feel if someone said bad things about your family and what would you do about it?

If some said bad things about my family I would be upset. No one is giving the right to talk bad or down on anyone family. Before anyone talks about any one family they should take a walk in their shoes. You never know what someone or people are going through within their family. At the end of the day all you have is your family. If put in this situation I would talk to the person that is saying bad things about my family and tell them how I feel.

  • What did you learn from the video? Can you relate to any of the experiences described or illustrated by some of the people in the video?

After watching the video I learned that every family is different. Whether being raised in a gay or lesbian household we all go through the same things in life. I can relate to the single parent household experience. Growing up in single parent household had its ups and downs. But I would not change one thing about it. It has only taught me independence.

  • Regarding the "Gay or Straight" video - Is a person "born" gay or lesbian? Explain.

No one is born gay or lesbian. People make a choice to become gay or lesbian. Sometimes the environment and lifestyle that you are surrounded with has an impact on you choosing to be gay or lesbian.

  • Also, can a person become gay by associating with gay people? Explain.

A person cannot become gay by associating with gay people. I think people discover their sexually and not all of them are attracted to the opposite sex. When you begin to really like or fall in love with a member of the same gender, and the two of you involve in sexual intercourse or become very intimate, is when it is considered that you are gay. I don’t think or believe that you can become gay just by being around gay people. You can model their behavior and decide if it’s for you or not. To each its own but no, you don’t become gay by being around gay people.
