Do you agree with the concepts described in the video? Why or why not?

- Yes , because even though it’s being compared to whales, it gives a lot of insight that teachers can learn from and take into a classroom setting and adapt. The concepts being described in the video are a lot relatable to real-life issues in classroom settings that can help teachers learn and grow and understand how to deal with them.

  • Which one do you agree with the most? Why?

- I agree with building trust and establishing relationships because that is the most important thing a teacher can do with a student in a classroom setting because that will make a student feel at home like or make them comfortable with the teacher.

  • In general terms, how could you implement the concepts in your classroom? Provide specifics.

-  I would implement concepts in my classroom by setting rules and consequences. Because rules and consequences need to be established before procedures and procedures are often built from and aligned with the classroom rules. For example,  rules should be formatted in a positive format “Respect your classmates in your words and your actions.” Implementing rules in the classroom are very important because it keeps the classroom in order and keeps the students from doing whatever they please.

~ How important to you is building trust and establishing relationships? Explain

-  Building trust and establishing relationships are very important. These two things are what students look for in teachers. Building trust with students can be difficult, but as a teacher and a student it’s more of a necessity. Being reliable is a part of building that trust with an student, meaning me being the teacher I would have to always make time and be there when I’m needed. Having faith in students is what a lot teacher’s lack. This is why students feel like they are not wanted and that teachers are not willing to at least try. Having faith in my students is what I will always have because I know that is what students look for in their teachers. Also, back when I was in school I know that a lot of teachers in my generation never believed in their students, they were just there to get a paycheck and go home and didn’t care about the students and what they needed. This is why building trust and establishing relationship with students are important because once that happens they know that they can make it because they had their teacher motivating them along the way.

  • The video states that it is important to find out what motivates the individual whales. Would this be the same for your students? Why?

-  Yes , because finding out what motivates students is what will keep them wanting to learn and keep themselves motivated to stay in school and not give up on what they have going for themselves, and with the teacher being there to help guide them on what motivates and what not will make the student feel that the teacher is there with them.

  • Do you think that it is important to keep things interesting for your students? How would you do this for your students?

- Yes, I do think that it is important to keep things interesting for my students because it will keep them interested and keep them engaged in what’s going on in the classroom and what the concept is about. I will do this by doing fun activities that will keep the students wanting to learn more about the topic. It first starts with me, in order for the students to be interested I have know what I’m teaching about, talk and also be hands on with students showing that I love what I’m teaching about its what I enjoy doing, that will keep the students engaged and interested.

  • Describe "redirection" the best you can - you might have to do some Internet research

- Redirection ; is when you change the way something is being done , changing the direction of an action that can be taking place. For example, the teacher redirected the students attention to the white board.

Summary:

Whale done gives a lot of insight on how a teacher can help motivate students, how to implement concepts /set rules, building trust and establishing relationships with students. I feel like the video was helpful in a lot of ways because, even though it compared it to whales and still gave off an insight that can be understood for teachers to learn how to basically adapting to being a teacher and learning how to deal with issues that students may have or just mainly helping students with their needs in the classroom setting.

Research Question:

Do teachers lack building the necessary trust that students need in a classroom setting?

Research Analysis:

From this video and research, you can get a lot from it. Being a teacher/becoming a teacher mean that there are a lot of things that come with the territory. How teachers react to students issues and needs, and how teachers deal with those issues. Like stated above, building trust and establishing relationships with the students in a classroom setting will help the students to adapt to the teacher as well as the classroom. Especially if you have students who feel as though they can’t do it or the student doesn’t have anyone to motivate them to keep pushing.
