Why do boys drop out of school at a much higher rate than girls? Provide some reasons.

Boys tend to drop out of school at a much higher rate than girls because boys tend to get into more things rather than girls. Boys tend to lose focus in what they are doing. Some boys adapt to their environment causing them to either become drug dealers or behind bars.  

 

What can you do, as a classroom teacher, to help reduce this high dropout rate for boys? Explain.

As a classroom teacher to help reduce this high dropout rate for boys I could start up a big brother’s program. So that the boys could have someone to guide them within school. This program would give the boys someone to talk to when they do not want to talk to their parents. This problem will also help them to stay on track so that they can graduate from high school so that they can further their education. So they one day could become successful.

 

Most elementary teachers are female. Can this cause problems in learning? Explain.

Most elementary teachers are females this cannot cause problems in the learning area because kids tend to learn either with a female teacher or male teacher. The gender of a student’s teacher should matter. Both female and male teachers has the same work requirement neither are better than the other.

Do you agree with the authors of the articles? Why or why not?

After reading over all articles I would have to say that I do agree with all authors. Everyone is being face with this problem. Even though no one is stepping up to talk about it. It shows that someone cares about our kids and society.

 

Do you think that people are "overreacting" Why or why not?

I do not think that people are overreacting about this situation. Many people today are going through this same discrimination. Whether it’s within the household or workplace. Everyone has had their share of discrimination. Now that people are starting talk about discrimination it gives others the hope that everything will be okay.

 

 

Would you allow your daughter (if you had a daughter) to wear this type of shirt?

If I had a daughter I wouldn’t allow her to wear a shirt that says “Boys are Stupid” this t-shirt is disrespecting males as a whole. No one should be allowed to disrespect anyone. As a female you should put yourself in a males shoes and see where they are coming from. As a male they have it much harder than females in today’s society. So why should we make it even harder for them by wearing this shirt.

 

What are your general feelings towards "message" apparel?

My general thoughts towards message apparel is I feel as if it is pointless. Someone who has time to go find a t-shirt that be little’s someone is sick. They should really go get help. You should tease someone because of their gender or any other natural. Everyone was put on this earth to serve a purpose.

In your schooling, have you ever experienced first-hand (or observed) gender discrimination by a teacher? Describe, but do not list any names.

During my high school year I experienced first-hand gender discrimination by a teacher. As a senior everyone was require to take a health class. Within this health class my teacher would single out all of the females from doing any sports or exercise because he felt as if girls are not strong enough to do anything. We are just supposed to sit and look pretty while the guys are doing activities. Also he would make the girls and guys go against each other in every sport or activity we did within the class.

 

According to the article, who benefits the most from conventional teaching strategies - boys or girls? Why is this?

After reading this article I feel as if girls benefits the most from conventional teaching strategies. Reading this article it shows proven examples of girls being taught better than boys. This article shows that a teacher singles out the boys when doing assignment. The teacher feel as if the females are smarter than the males.

 

What will YOU do to eliminate gender inequities in YOUR classroom? Describe.

As a classroom teacher to eliminate gender inequities within my classroom I would make sure that all students are treated equally. By making sure all students are treated equally I would make sure that all of my lesson that are being taught is better rounded. Giving both the females and males an opportunity to do well in my class. I would not single any particular gender out.
